(PORTAGE) – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Branch and Cass counties Tuesday night after at least two confirmed tornadoes and softball-size hail hit the area, leaving significant damage to buildings and roads.

In response to reports coming out of the University of Michigan of protestors using terms like “intifada,” which refers to periods of violence against Jews, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Tuesday said “hateful rhetoric” at “college campuses” is unacceptable.
