Gov. Gretchen Whitmer didn't rule out Monday signing legislation that would amend the tipped wage and earned sick leave, saying only in response to reporters' question, "I'll continue to watch and see what they come up with."

A special committee designed to take up proposed reforms to the tipped wage credit and earned sick leave changes set to take effect Feb. 21, was created Thursday by the House adopting HR 7.

Michigan's $10.33-an-hour minimum wage will increase from around $12.25 to $12.30 an hour and tipped workers will see their base wage go up from $3.93 an hour to around $5.90 an hour by Feb. 21, 2025, under a Supreme Court ruling on Wednesday.

The Michigan Supreme Court split along party lines on Wednesday to rule that the Republican-led Legislature’s adopt-and-amend tactic for minimum wage and paid sick leave initiatives in 2018 was unconstitutional.

A proposal to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour isn't going before the Legislature or before voters later this year.
