FOIA Requests For DOS Up 800%, 2020 Still Hot Topic

While the Department of State has seen a nearly 800 percent increase in total Freedom of Information Act requests since 2021, according to one line item included in the Fiscal Year ‘24-25 budget, DOS Senior Press Secretary said the most significant increase has been within the Bureau of Elections.
On May 29, cycling journalist Teal Amore sent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to five state departments asking for a log of all the FOIA requests each department received for calendar year 2023.

A Court of Claims judge ruled Wednesday that the Attorney General’s office cannot withhold from public release documents and exhibits used in court against those accused of supporting the plot to kidnap the Governor.
