The Michigan State Capitol Commission (MSCC) may be taking another look at its proposed no-guns in the Capitol policy as it relates to lawmakers.

The Michigan judicial system led by the Michigan Supreme Court is 22 years ahead of the state Legislature when it comes to the issue of banning weapons.

The lone state representative who had recall language against him approved on Tuesday said in a statement that the attempt to unseat him is a “partisan tactic to divert our attention from harmful policies coming out of Lansing, such as the recently signed budget.”

Organizers can begin collecting signatures to recall Rep. Cam Cavitt (R-Cheboygan) from office. The recall efforts of seven other state representatives will need to wait.

The finalized language for a Capitol weapons prohibition does not include exemptions for lawmakers, Rob Blackshaw, executive director of the State Capitol Commission, told the media during the Commission's July meeting.
