Thanedar's Son To Run Michigan Campaign Finance Network

(Source: MIRS.news, Published 03/14/2025) Neil Thanedar, the son of U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Detroit) was unanimously elected to serve as the Michigan Campaign Finance Network (MCFN) director after a two-month search.

Former director Nick Pigeon resigned to run for the Lansing City Council.

Thanedar said he agreed to recuse himself from stories that include his father. The board said they would write and review any stories regarding Shri.

“MCFN’s critical role as watchdog over the influence of money and its sources on political decision makers demands partisan independence, critical thinking and courage,” said MCFN Board Chair Alma Wheeler Smith.

Neil co-founded three laboratory startups, including Labdoor, which tests supplements and health products. He also created a nonprofit medical device startup to design respirators and ventilators named Air to All in 2020.

“I’m excited to take on this big responsibility to fight dark money in Michigan politics. MCFN has long been our state’s leading watchdog for campaign finance and government ethics, and I’m fired up to continue and grow this legacy,” Thanedar said.
