(Source: MIRS.news, Published 09/12/2025) Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) shared Friday that on Thursday, he received a "detailed and specific message" threatening him at his home with a bomb. His Oakland County home was checked by local and state police, with a bomb-sniffing dog, who confirmed there was no immediate danger.

Moss recently changed his main residency from Southfield to Bloomfield Township. On top of being a term-limited legislator, Moss is running to replace U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Birmingham) in the 11th U.S. House district, including communities like West Bloomfield Township, Waterford, Pontiac, Royal Oak and Farmington Hills.
Also on Thursday, it was reported that a "credible" bomb threat to the Detroit residence of Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II, his wife and three children near Corktown. Gilchrist is running for governor ahead of the 2026 elections, and said the threat was cleared.
"This current political environment is untenable. In the past few days, I've experienced a noticeable influx of bigoted, aggressive messages directed at my office and social media inboxes," Moss said of the bomb threat. "We must reject this as the norm in our politics, especially after recent acts of political violence have claimed lives in Minnesota and Utah."
On Wednesday, the Republican-led House adjourned session early following the fatal shooting of conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie KIRK. The shooting occurred during one of his outdoor debates at Utah Valley University, which was attended by around 3,000 individuals.
Additionally, in June, federal charges were made against 57-year-old Minnesota resident, Vance Boelter, for stalking and murdering Melissa Hortman, a recent Minnesota House speaker, and her husband. Boelter was also charged with stalking and shooting – injuring, but not killing – Minnesota state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife.
Hortman was a Democrat and Hoffman was a Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party member.
On social media, a photo was circulated of Reps. Emily Dievendorf (D-Lansing) and Joey Andrews (D-St. Joseph) sitting at their desks during Wednesday's session, claiming the two "couldn't be bothered to stand" and pray for Kirk. Today, Dievendorf posted that the post had led to "messages suggesting violence to me and my family, telling me to hang myself, and committing to find and share my personal information, including my address."
"Most of the messages also call me a c*** bitch, whore and awful human being and some say I'm a traitor to my race," Dievendorf said. "And yet even in the photo being shared I'm solemn and looking down at my desk. I was serious then and I'm serious now because the escalation of violence is hurting all of us."
