(Source: MIRS.news, Published 06/18/2025) The Attorney General’s office executed search warrants on Wednesday on the downtown Lansing headquarters of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in what is presumably related to state grants managed by the quasi-governmental entity.
Otis McKinley, media and communications manager with the MEDC, told MIRS that the department has been “fully and voluntarily cooperating” with the AG’s investigation for more than two years.

“Today’s actions were unwarranted and unnecessary. We have no additional comment at this time,” he said.
Danny Wimmer, the AG’s press secretary, confirmed to MIRS that the agency also searched a private residence in Farmington Hills “in furtherance of an ongoing investigation.”
“At this time, we are not able to provide any further information,” Wimmer said.
Wimmer declined to say whether the search warrants were related to Attorney General Dana Nessel’s ongoing investigation into a $20 million taxpayer-funded grant awarded to Fey Beydoun, who has not been charged with a crime.
The Detroit Free Press reported that neighbors confirmed Farmington Hills police vehicles were outside Beydoun’s home around mid-morning, with one person claiming file boxes were taken.
Farmington Hills police did not return a message seeking comment.
Beydoun’s grant is one of two Nessel’s office is investigating.
The other involves money given to Gavin Brown, the executive director of the Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association, for an aerospace project.
McKinley declined to say what, if anything, had been seized.
The Detroit News reported that an email from MEDC’s chief communications and attraction officer, Michelle Grinnell, indicated that some employees’ phones had been “collected” by investigators.
Beydoun, who served on the MEDC Executive Committee when she received the grant, made headlines in 2024 when she used $4,500 from the state grant on a coffee maker. Since that time, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has dropped her from the committee.
Whitmer is currently in Australia with MEDC CEO Quentin L. Messer Jr. on an economic trip.
