(Source: MIRS.news, Published 08/15/2025) Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed three bills Friday, bringing the total number of bills passed through the Legislature and signed into law in 2025 to nine.

One new public act allows distilleries and mixed-spirit producers to inhabit the same space. The two others change the name of highways in memory of a National Guard member and police trooper. The bill signings come a day after the Senate passed five House-originated bills on Wednesday. That's more House bills than the three the Senate had voted out in 2025 up to that point.

There are still 14 bills in the chamber that were supported unanimously in the House.

The first bill signed on Friday was HB 4403, sponsored by Rep. Pauline Wendzel (R-Watervliet), would allow distilleries and mixed-spirit manufacturers the same ability as wineries and breweries to use the same space and equipment to make their products.

“This bill is a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together. The unanimous support it received in the House and Senate shows that helping our small businesses and local job creators is a shared priority,” Wendzel said.

Rep. Tom Kunse (R-Clare) sponsored HB 4003 to designate part of U.S. Route 131 as the Sgt. Matthew Webber Memorial Highway. Webber was a National Guard member who died while deployed in Iraq.

Rep. John Roth (R-Interlochen) sponsored HB 4046 to designate part of U.S.-131 as Trooper James E. Broland Memorial Highway. Broland died after being hit by a drunk driver.

“I’m proud to honor two brave Michiganders who stepped up for their community and gave their lives protecting our safety and freedom,” Whitmer said.
