(Source: MIRS.news, Published 09/26/2025) Target numbers for the Fiscal Year 2026 budget have been reached, MIRS has learned.
The release of spending limits for each state department has set off fast and furious negotiations among appropriations subcommittee chairs in the hopes of polishing off a final spending document by Tuesday, the end of the 2025 fiscal year.

The Senate still has in its chamber HB 4161 and HB 4162 , a continuation budget the House Republicans affectionately called the "Shutdown Prevention Plan," in case the logistics of throwing together the final details of a roughly $80 billion budget for next year proves too much, logistically.
However, the Governor and legislative leaders would prefer all sides iron out the details of a final budget deal over the weekend that can be voted out this coming Tuesday, at the latest. Friday's action comes after the House took the first steps in passing a $1.85 billion long-term road funding plan, the key to unlocking a final budget deal.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer put out a statement Thursday night that an agreement struck by the Republican House, Democratic Senate and her "puts us on a path to lower costs, fixing the damn roads, and passing a balanced, bipartisan budget by Oct. 1."
