(Source: MIRS.news, Published 04/07/2026) U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) said on Tuesday that she’d consider running for president in 2028 to help the Democratic Party chart a new path built around the generation of leaders, according to a story published Tuesday evening in the Des Moines Register.

“I’m not so arrogant as to think it has to be me,” Slotkin told the newspaper when asked during a trip to Iowa.

“Midterms is what I’m focused on right now, but if it comes to the point afterward that I think there’s not anyone else who’s on the right path, I guess I wouldn’t say no forever,” she added.

Slotkin told a group of President Donald Trump supporters, who didn’t initially know she was a Democrat, that she’s “not announcing anything,” according to an ABC 27 WHTM story.

Slotkin, who narrowly won her Senate seat in 2024 after serving three terms in the U.S. House, has tried to increase her national exposure, including throwing herself into advocating for a robust takedown of Trump’s agenda.

Slotkin, a former CIA analyst and Pentagon aide, told a Lansing audience in June 2025 that she “wrote a war plan” of how to “contain and defeat Trump,” and she delivered the Democratic response to Trump’s joint address to Congress in March 2025.

Slotkin made headlines in January when she and other lawmakers participated in a video reminding military and intelligence communities that they can refuse illegal military orders.
