(Source: MIRS.news, Published 07/18/2025) The AFL-CIO’s “It’s Better in a Union: Freedom, Fairness & Security” bus tour stopped in Warren this week, where union members, community leaders and working families gathered to demand an economy that “puts people before profits and lifts up the voices of workers.”

Led by the AFL-CIO and hosted by the Michigan AFL-CIO, the nationwide bus tour is traveling to dozens of communities ahead of Labor Day to highlight the issues working people care about most – organizing rights, economic justice and job security.

"Working people in Michigan are fired up and ready to build power," said Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron Bieber. "This tour is about making it crystal clear: we demand the freedom to join a union, the fairness of an economy that works for us – not billionaires – and the security of a future we can count on. Our movement is growing, and we won’t stop until every worker in this country has a real shot at the American Dream.”

Workers and union leaders from across sectors shared their stories and called out the political consequences of decisions that “prioritize CEOs and the wealthy over everyday people.”

Among those speaking were OPEIU Local 40 President Dina Carlisle, AFGE District Coordinator Yvonne Renee Evans and AFT Michigan Local 1855 member Stathis Paul.

The “It’s Better in a Union” bus tour continues through Labor Day, with the goal of mobilizing thousands of workers and driving a nationwide call for change rooted in freedom, fairness and security. Video of the event is here.
