(Source: MIRS.news, Published 02/05/2026) Republican gubernatorial candidate Perry Johnson will urge viewers as part of a $3 million advertising buy to change the channel during halftime of Sunday's Super Bowl to the “Turning Point All American Halftime Show” instead of the NFL's official Bad Bunny halftime show.
The show — featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett – will be streamed on Turning Point USA's social media channels. NBC is broadcasting Super Bowl LX this year.

Johnson said, “What in the world happened to the NFL? . . . I urge everyone in Michigan to change the channel and watch the patriotism, unity, freedom and All-American values that the NFL should be supporting.”
Johnson is also using the weekend to uncork a new ad titled “4747," in which the quality expert talks about his desire to eliminate the Michigan income tax and “return $4,747 to the average working family" by eliminating the state income tax.
In 2017, former state Treasurer Bob Kleine wrote an analysis for the MSU Extension on the impact of eliminating the individual income tax. At that time, the income tax generated $9.4 million, accounting for 67 percent of the state General Fund and 22 percent of the School Aid Fund.
Johnson's plan is to cut "2 cents off every discretionary dollar spent and by eliminating waste and incompetence in our government.”
Fellow Republican candidates Mike Cox and Anthony Hudson have also called for eliminating the income tax. Tom Leonard has proposed moving the tax rate from 4.25 percent to 3.9 percent and Aric Nesbitt supports lowering taxes.
