(Source: MIRS.news, Published 08/27/2025) Former state lawmaker Jewell Jones was arraigned Wednesday on allegations he carried firearms and ammunition magazines into a Saginaw hospital.
Court records show that Jones, whose bond was set at $7,500 cash surety, is charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of firearms on restricted premises.

A preliminary examination has been set for Sept. 10 in Saginaw. He faces up to five years in prison if he is convicted as charged.
When reached for comment, Jones, who served in the House from 2017 to 2022, told MIRS that he “needed to get settled” and “maybe another time” he would comment on the allegations.
“I’m just happy to be out,” he said.
According to Flint television station WJRT-TV, who first reported the arrest, Jones told police he was acting as a bodyguard for a religious leader as they visited a patient at Covenant Health hospital.
The hospital said the firearm was first noticed by an employee.
Police discovered Jones had one gun in his hoodie pocket and a second one, an MP-5 which is described as a submachine gun, in his backpack, WJRT-TV reported.
It is illegal to carry a concealed firearm in a hospital.
Jones did not say whether he had a concealed pistol license.
This isn’t Jones’ first brush with law enforcement.
Jones was arrested in April 2021 following a suspected drunken-driving incident on Interstate 96 in which motorists reported seeing his Chevy Tahoe drifting in and out of lanes before it stopped on the shoulder.
Jones was sentenced in March 2022 to probation for resisting police, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, and reckless driving.
Jones subsequently pleaded guilty and was sentenced to jail time for violating probation by drinking alcohol.
