Governor: Not Appropriate to Consider Job Offers Now

(Source: MIRS.news, Published 03/23/2026) In 252 days, the state's second female governor will be out of work and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has been silent on what the future holds … that is until now.
"I really don't know what I'm going to do next. I know no one believes that, "she said as she did a semi-deep dive into her feelings about what's next during a recent Off The Record interview.

She is very clear on one point. She thinks it would be wrong to be testing the job market while she is still running the state.
"I have not entertained conversations like that. I don't think that that's appropriate. I'm governor until the end of the year. I don't want to do anything that could raise any sort of conflict. So, no, I'm not having any of those conversations," she said.
With her national political exposure, her longevity in the legislative trenches and now in the front office, plus oodles of national broadcast and social media attention while hawking her first book, one could argue folks might be knocking on the door with this offer or that, but she appears in no hurry to answer the door.
"The last few months have been hard personally with my dad and everything else going on, so it will be nice to take a breath and think about it when I get a moment, but I haven't had that yet," she confessed.
Asked if she might take three or four months off just to "veg out" before diving into something new, she offers, "You see I'm not good at being idle," and then she adds this: "I have a plan, but I'll start thinking about that in the coming months, probably."
She would not comment on whether the following was high on her list, but others might think it might be.
"You can see yourself as a TV commentator," she was asked, and she quickly reversed roles and shot back, "Why? Are you retiring?" Whitmer laughed. After the question was answered with a solid “no,” the Governor was reminded her question was still on the table.
"You could do that, couldn't you?"
"I don't know. Yeah. It might be fun. We'll see," she said.
