(Source: MIRS.news, Published 02/26/2026) The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is looking into who is sending orange Kool-Aid packets and possibly other powders to the headquarters of the Michigan Republican Party (MRP), the Maine Republican Party and several county parties.

Earlier this month, MRP Executive Director Jessica Barefield opened a handwritten envelope that contained a note and an unopened packet of orange Kool-Aid powder. The note read, “Please stop drinking the Trump Orange Kool-Aid.”

The reference is to President Donald Trump, who is often lampooned as having orangish skin.

Barefield said she chuckled, took a picture and threw the packet away. Then she heard from other county parties that they had received something similar sent from the Pontiac Metroplex.

The county parties in Oakland, Kalamazoo, Jackson, Kent, Gladwin and Midland have all received an envelope of powder with similar messages on them. The GOP in the state of Maine, also, received something similar sent from the Metroplex in Pontiac. The FBI has since gotten involved. Sending powder along with a seemingly threatening message is a federal crime.

The envelopes are all hand addressed, but not with the same handwriting.

“It's treated 100% as a crime,” said Oakland County Republican Party senior advisor Brian Szmytke. “They don't like it when powder gets sent in envelopes."
