The decision follows Wayne County District Judge James A. Plakas’ March 20 order dismissing the original 2024 charges against Christopher Dean Baldwin, who had been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

“We are alleging once again that the defendant in this case continues to harass our state Attorney General and her wife,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. “This is criminal behavior and cannot be tolerated.”
Baldwin, who is housed in a secure facility, was initially charged in March 2024 with two counts of misdemeanor stalking.
The 12-month offense, MCL 330.2044, requires that if Baldwin remains incompetent for four months – or one-third of the maximum – the case must be dismissed until, and if, he regains competency.
Plakas’ order moves that case from the criminal division to the probate court division. If Baldwin is found competent in the future, Worthy said the criminal case will be reinstated.
Meanwhile, Baldwin faces new charges of aggravated stalking for allegedly using Nessel and her wife’s address and phone number without permission to receive court documents from Jackson County District Court.
Baldwin was arraigned and given a $200,000 cash or surety bond with a tether if he is released. He returns to court April 4 for a conference, and a preliminary examination was set for April 11.
