A Democratic lawmaker on Tuesday called for the state's Department of Corrections (MDOC) director to resign after a second inmate death was reported at Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility (WHVCF).

Members of the House Oversight Committee sat with their heads in their hands as Rep. Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia) laid out what she called a “representative sample” of failures inside the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility, which she said are costing incarcerated women their health, their dignity, and in some cases, their lives.
