(Source: MIRS.news, Published 09/06/2023) Gov. Gretchen Whitmer released polling numbers from five polls to back her paid family and medical leave proposal, which she set as one of her fall priorities during the What’s Next Address on Aug. 30.

Whitmer cited a Data for Progress poll from February that found 79% of Americans support paid family and medical leave, including 74% independents and 72% Republicans. The poll had a 1,216 sample using a web panel and a margin of error of 3%.

The second poll cited was conducted by the Global Strategy Group, which is a public affairs firm that started as a Democratic polling firm. The poll, paid for by Navigator Research, found 80% of Americans support paid family and medical leave, including 76% of independents and 70% Republicans. The online survey was taken in 2022 from 1,001 registered voters.

An April 2020 National Partnership for Women & Families poll was cited, showing 75% of Americans supported paid family and medical leave.

A cited Denno Research poll showed 86% of Michiganders supported paid sick time in 2015.

A Pew Research poll was also cited to back up Whitmer’s plan by stating that 99% of Americans believe spending time with family is important.
