(MIRS.news, Published 05/09/23) In years past, EPIC-MRA's polling has shown that the voting public hasn't been big fans of the Legislature, regardless of which party was calling the shots.

"People do not like the Legislature and they are not too fond of Congress either," said EPIC-MRA Pollster Bernie PORN.

So, with the Democrats in control of the House and Senate, how is it that they enjoy a 42- to 33-point advantage over the Republicans on the favorability scale?

"That's a very good number because it was more likely to have been in the 30% range in the past and now to be at 42%, that is an indication that the public believes the Democrats with Gov. Whitmer are accomplishing what their agenda is."

Porn said the problem for the Republicans is, “They are fighting Democrats in those accomplishments that are overwhelmingly supported by the public."

Foremost among those checked off boxes is the anti-gun violence legislation, the expansion of home and job protection rights for the LGBTQ community and the repeal of Right to Work. "Independents are looking in a negative way at what the Republicans are doing."

The polling was commissioned by the Michigan Library Association with 41% of the sample self-identified as Democrats and 39% self-identified as Republicans, which means the D's overperformed their base by 1% while the R's underperformed their base by 6 points.
