The New York Times published an opinion piece from a Duke University professor titled, "Biden Is No Sure Things For 2024. What About Buttigieg? Harris? Even Whitmer?" Frank Bruni referred to Whitmer as "Pabst Blue Ribbon with just the right measure of merlot."
"The Michigan governor had one of the best election nights of anyone in the midterms," The Hill reported.
While Whitmer has stuck to the mantra of staying focused on being governor, she has not closed the door to any potential presidential aspirations, telling NBC that "I'm proud of being a Michigander. And that's where my focus is at the moment."
Whitmer also was featured on CNN's Sunday morning program, Reuters, The Washington Post and other publications.
Jill Alper, who managed Gov. Jennifer Granholm's campaigns back in the day and has experience on the presidential scene, agrees with two Whitmer campaign staffers that the Governor has what it takes to make that next step if she wants it.
"If this is something she wants to do, she's got the guts, the savvy and the record to do it," Alper said on the MIRS Monday podcast. "As a leader, Gov. Whitmer is fearless. She sticks to her guns. She's able to multi-task. Great sense of humor. She was able to get over 900 bipartisan bills into law even during a re-election campaign. So I have to hand it for her on being an effective political leader."
Alper noted that the national conversation is what folks should be paying attention to regarding to Whitmer's future, but she noted, "We have a Democratic president who has done a good job."
