(Source: MIRS.news, Published 11/18/2022) Rep. Angela Witwer (D-Delta Township) was announced today as House Appropriations Committee chair for the 2023-24 legislative session.
Witwer will take on this role in addition to being named as chair of the Committee on Committees earlier this week.
The two-term House member is finishing out the year serving District 71, and was re-elected to represent District 76, which makes up a majority of Eaton County and a part of the City of Lansing.
She currently serves as Democrat vice chair of the Health Policy committee and as a member of Agriculture and Regulatory Reform committees.
Speaker-elect Joe Tate (D-Detroit) expressed his confidence in Witwer to head the committee that has been recognized as the most powerful legislative committee and is responsible for setting expenditures for the state of Michigan.
“In her two terms in the House, Angela has established herself as a strong leader, tireless advocate and an independent voice for all Michiganders,” Tate said. “I have full confidence in her ability to thoughtfully lead House Appropriations .”
Witwer added that she is “honored to serve in this esteemed role and recognize my responsibility as a financial steward of the taxpayers’ hard-earned money.”
“I remain committed to investing in those things that matter most to Michiganders,” she said, “quality infrastructure, access to affordable healthcare and a world-class education for all children.”
The move means both the House and Senate appropriations committees will be chaired by people from the Lansing area. The Senate Appropriations Committee will be chaired by Sen.-elect Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing).
