(Source: MIRS.news, Published 01/11/2023) U.S. Rep. Slotkin leads the Democratic field of U.S. Senate candidates with an overwhelming 65 percent of likely Dem voters while former Detroit Police Chief James Craig is up 33 to 20 percent over former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers in a more competitive Republican contest.

Former U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer is at 11 percent in the Jan. 4-10 survey of 600 likely Republican voters. Southeast Michigan business executive Sandy Pensler was at 2 percent. Board of Education member Nikki Snyder and Laingsburg business executive Michael Hoover are both at 1 percent.

The survey commissioned by MIRS and the Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance listed out the names of all 11 declared Republican U.S. Senate candidates. They were all at 0%. The undecided vote was 33%. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage margin of error.

“Chief James Craig is leading this race because of his authenticity and successful career in law enforcement,” said Craig senior advisor Ted Goodman. “While other candidates in this race will brag about their support for the permanent Washington political class and their deep-pocketed donors who they will have to answer to, Chief James Craig can’t be bought and won’t be told what to do by anyone other than the people of Michigan.”

In response to Thursday’s poll results, Rogers Communications Director Chris Gustafson said, “Between the lawlessness at the border and massive increase in prices at the hands of Joe Biden and Elissa Slotkin, Michiganders are sick and tired of their complete and utter failures.

“Mike Rogers is committed to getting America back on track, meeting with voters all across Michigan and has already collected the signatures required to get on the ballot. There’s a reason Mike has never lost an election.”

On the Democratic side, the Target Insyght survey found actor Hill Harper at 7 percent, former Rep. Leslie Love at 2 percent and Southeast Michigan business executive Nasser Beydoun at 0%. Other candidates, “undecided” or “unsure” registered at 26 percent.

Ann Arbor attorney Zack Burns was listed as a candidate on the poll, but his campaign is no longer active. His campaign website, phone number and Twitter account are no longer active. Messages to Burns, who also works and lives out of Boston, were not returned.

The polling was done in advance of the Friday, Jan. 19 Northern Michigan Policy Conference at Grand Traverse Resort. Confirmed attendees include Meijer, Snyder, Hoover and Harper. Slotkin, Rogers and Pensler and Craig also have been invited.
