Michigan D's Huddle At White House

(Source: MIRS.news, Published 12/19/2022) A handful of Michigan legislative Democrats were in the nation's capital last week for a national conference and also got an invite to huddle with President Joe Biden's staff working on common areas of concerns among the states. Along the way they also got a tour of one of the President's best perks.

Included in the group were outgoing-Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint) and incoming-Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids). Rep. Tyrone Carter (D-Detroit), Sen-elect Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Twp.) and Rep. Samantha Steckloff (D-Farmington Hills) were also invited into the White House for the sit down chat with staff.

One major agenda item was the argued need for beefed-up mental health services with the aim of reducing the role that law enforcement is forced to play, from domestic violence to active shooters with a mental illness.

"It is universal, and not unique to Michigan," said Carter, a former Wayne County Sheriff's official.

After the hour-or-so session was over, Steckloff said she wanted to see the President's bowling alley in the bowels of the White House.

No sooner said than done.

They saw the two-lane facility in action so none of them got a chance to roll a ball down one of the president's lanes, but one described it as a nice way for the President to exercise at home.

Speaking of home, scheduled to attend the meeting was Rep. Angela WITWER (D-Delta Township), who was home nursing a pretty bad case of RSV, which lasted more than seven days.
