(Source: MIRS.news, Published 08/19/22) Friday, Tudor Dixon announced that former Rep. Shane Hernandez is her pick for Lt. Governor.

Hernandez chaired the House Appropriations Committee and served two terms before running for Congress.

“Shane Hernandez as lieutenant governor will help to improve our schools, create safer communities, and improve our economy.  Like me, Shane is concerned about the impact rising prices are having on our families,” Dixon said.

Hernandez, who was named most conservative member of the Michigan House in 2017, said in a release that he is honored to be Dixon’s running mate.

“Her vision is the right one for Michigan and I believe we will defeat Whitmer and begin to repair the damage she’s caused to our families, students, and business owners,” he said.

To make his selection official, Hernandez will still need to be approved by the delegates during the GOP state convention held in Lansing on Aug. 27.

“I am confident delegates will embrace Shane and unite, we will defeat Gretchen Whitmer in November,” Dixon said.

Hernandez served in the Michigan House representing House District 83, from 2018 through 2020.  He then ran in 2020 for the Republican nomination in the 10th Congressional District and lost.

He worked as Vice President of design at a small architectural firm in Port Huron. The Hernandez family is an active part of Port Huron First United Methodist Church, where his wife Renee works in the nursery and serves as Secretary of the Evangelism Committee.  Hernandez is chair of the church’s Digital Media Committee and President of the Methodist Men’s Group.

Michigan State Police Capt. Mike Brown, who was booted from the ballot because of insufficient signatures, called the pick a, “Great selection” in a tweet.

Ryan Kelly said in a release that he will not be seeking the nomination for lt. governor and will not accept it if he is picked during the convention.

“While I will certainly consider future opportunities to serve in political office, or perhaps the GOP party leadership, I believe the best way for me to serve right now is lead the effort to defeat these extreme proposals aimed at changing our constitution,” Kelly said.

He also took aim at the leadership of the GOP and Republicans in power.

“America First advocates everywhere are fed up with the status quo politicians and establishment uni-party globalists controlling our party and government,” Kelly said.

MIRS also learned that Mike Bishop, who was a possible Lt. Gov. pick, made it clear he was not interested in the position.

A source said Garrett Soldano would decide over the weekend if he would try to run against Dixon’s pick during the convention.
