(Source: MIRS.news, Published 01/26/2024) Former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner to win the 2024 Republican nomination, endorsed former Congressman Pete Hoekstra as the chair of the Republican Party in Michigan in a post on Truth Social.

Hoekstra, who was elected by members of the Republican State Committee last week to replace Kristina Karamo, was the ambassador to the Netherlands during the Trump administration and an early supporter of the former president prior to that.

“I look forward to working with Ambassador Pete Hoekstra as Chairman of the Republican Party of Michigan. He is a winner who was a GREAT Congressman from Michigan and, likewise, did a fantastic job as Ambassador to the Netherlands. Pete will make the Republican Party of Michigan GREAT AGAIN, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be its Chairman – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

Noteworthy is that the post refers to the “Republican Party of Michigan” as opposed to the Michigan Republican Party, which is the formal name of the organization. Whether that's a mistake or a signal that a different organization is developing isn't clear.

Karamo has not conceded her removal as state party chair on Jan. 6, saying the State Committee did not follow proper procedures in voting her out.

Earlier this week, the Republican National Committee’s attorneys said that, on its initial glance, Karamo was properly removed, but is not seating either Hoekstra or Karamo at the coming RNC Winter Meeting.
