(Source: MIRS.news, Published 03/04/2025) Rep. Josh Schriver (R-Oxford) said on Tuesday he is working on legislation to ban internet pornography from everyone in Michigan, those under 18 and those older than 18.

Schriver, among the chamber's most conservative members, said the bill is still in draft form as he works on perfecting the language.

In recent years, 19 states have passed laws mandating pornography websites verify their users' ages, according to CNN. In response, Pornhub has blocked access to their site from all but three of these states due to the cost of technology to verify ages.

But Schriver said he thinks all porn should be banned from Michigan, calling it “terrible” and “a scourge.”

“Kids can just go online and access porn,” he said. “What the heck is that all about? That's a security issue. It's ruining kids' lives. It's ruining marriages. It's just ruining so many things in our state. It's got to be addressed.”

Speaking at the House Communications and Technology committee during a presentation on cybersecurity, Schriver asked Michigan State Police (MSP) Det. Lt. Jeff Hoffman if banning pornography is “something you guys are equipped to enforce?”

In response, Hoffman said, “The MSP does not enforce the internet. We investigate crimes.”
