(Source: MIRS.news, Published 07/26/2024) Presumptive Democratic Presidential Nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris is one point behind Republican Presidential Nominee and former President Donald Trump, 45 percent to 46 percent with 9 percent undecided, according to an Emerson College Poll released Thursday.
The July 22-23 survey comes on the heels of a July 15-16 Emerson survey of 800 likely Michigan voters that found Trump beating President Joe Biden by three points, 43 to 40 percent. Biden dropped out of the race on July 21 in favor of Harris.
With young voters, Harris is polling five points higher than Biden in Michigan since earlier this month. A total of 77 percent of Democrats in Michigan polled support Harris as the nominee. Eight percent are not sure and 15 percent want someone else.
Also, the gender divide remains real. Trump is up 54 to 38 percent among Michigan men, but Harris is up 50 to 42 percent among Michigan women. The top issues among voters remain the economy (42 percent), immigration (11 percent) and housing affordability (11 percent).
Overall, Harris is sitting at 47percent favorable, 50 percent unfavorable. Trump is at 48 percent favorable, 51 percent unfavorable. Biden is at 39 favorable and 53 unfavorable. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is at 49 percent approve, 42 percent disapprove.
Between Republicans and Democrats polled in Michigan, 27 percent would prefer Whitmer be selected as Biden’s running mate. When just Democrats are asked, 36 percent prefer Whitmer as opposed to U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.
U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) polls at 45.6 percent compared to former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers’ 39.6 percent in the race for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat.
The results are similar to that of a Detroit News/WDIV poll from Friday that showed Harris and Trump are dead even, each polling at 41 percent. Robert F. Kennedy JR. polled at 10 percent and 6 percent are undecided. It polled 600 respondents. The margin of error was +/- 4 percent.
