(Source: MIRS.news, Published Oct. 11, 2024) There’s an issue that 71 percent of Michigan voters feel needs either attention, or immediate action: addressing the nation’s growing national debt.
Neither former President Donald Trump nor Vice President Kamala Harris have made lower deficits and the national debt an issue this campaign cycle.
In a recent survey commissioned by MIRS and conducted by Mitchell Research and Communications, voters were asked the following question:
According to the Committee for a Responsible Budget, former President Donald Trump approved $8.8 trillion in new U.S. borrowing while current President Joe Biden has approved $6.2 trillion in new U.S. borrowing. The current national debt stands at $104,757 for every person in the U.S. In light of this, how do you presently view America’s national debt?
Here is how the responses broke down:
37% said the issue needs more attention
34% said debt is an issue that must be addressed by the incoming president.
19% said debt is an issue, but not pressing
5% said the debt was not a real issue.
