A two-bill package requiring hotels and rental car companies to provide customers with their policy on smoking fees before renting a vehicle or a room received opposition in committee Wednesday from the lodging and rental car industry association.

The newly renamed Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Economic Development and Lifelong Learning had its first budget hearing, during which Chair Will Snyder (D-Muskegon) asked more about the difference between Michigan Marketing and Pure Michigan funding.

Tuesday, a collaborative of statewide and regional hospitality and tourism organizations, called the Michigan Hospitality and Tourism Alliance, announced its formation, along with a corresponding bicameral caucus.
